Diogenes

The Diogenes Club is a Cabal belonging to the Consilium of the Central Line. It was originally comprised solely of Free Councillors maintaining a Lorehouse, but that duty was later passed to the 51st State at a time when the Club's membership was no longer even majority Council.

History[]

With the creation of the Free Council, a group of free-thinking Awakened of varying magical techniques found themselves brought together. Each formerly solitary practitioners, the six Nameless - now six Councillors - saw the virtue in bringing together and correlating insights and information no other group could.

They drew their name, accordingly, from the club attended by Mycroft Holmes in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes mythology, as they saw themselves as imitating his unique technique. Shortly afterward the Consilium of the Central Line was formally assembled, and since then the Diogenes Club have been a governing factor in it.

In early days they pulled strings but allowed a Cabal of Ladder known as the Loamshire Regiment to hold the position of Hierarch, with the Diogenes' leader easily manipulating the Loamshire's second in command. Thus began a tradition which survives today, ensuring that no member of the Club has ever been Hierarch.
